Alex Persons
Doctoral Practicum Therapist
Alex Persons (he/him/his) is a fourth-year Counseling Psychology doctoral student at the University of Iowa. Alex is originally from Atlanta, Georgia, and received his undergraduate degree in psychology from The University of Georgia (go Dawgs! 🙂) and his master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Indiana University Bloomington. At Indiana, Alex worked as a substance use counselor during his master's practicum and internship and worked at the Kinsey Institute as a graduate research assistant on the IU Rape Prevention and Education team.
Alex's previous doctoral practicum experiences include working at the Belin-Blank Center clinic conducting psychoeducational evaluations with children and conducting telehealth psychotherapy with adolescents at the Scanlan Center. This is Alex's second semester working at ΢ÃÜÆƽâ and he is thrilled to return to ΢ÃÜÆƽâ to support students during their undergraduate journey. He typically utilizes Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) interventions. Alex believes that the therapeutic space is meant to be a warm, supportive environment where clients are met flexibly by the therapist with their goals in mind.
Outside of the therapy room, Alex enjoys traveling, Braves baseball, and UGA football.
