΢ƽ's Strategic Horizon

Campus & Community
Sep 2, 2025

Dear students, faculty, and staff,

I invite you into community with me and Jerry Seaman, Special Advisor to the President for Strategy, at the inaugural Scholars’ Convocation of the 2025–26 academic year. At ΢ƽ, the tradition of convocation spans almost four decades, and for the past two years it has been my honor to share updates on the College's strategic plan, Knowledge into Action. This year, we will expand the conversation to explore strategic thinking and action as institutional habits in challenging times.

Partnering with Monica Chavez-Silva, vice president of Community Engagement and Strategic Planning, to build on the work that she and her team have set in motion since 2023, Jerry and I will discuss the higher education landscape and share a vision of ΢ƽ’s two-year and longer-term outlooks as shaped by the strategic plan. In 2025–26, we will initiate work on four issues that shape experiences at ΢ƽ:

  • Faculty Workload (Catalyst for Educational Excellence)
  • Culture of Recognition (Belonging and Connection)
  • Sustainable Enrollments and Equitable Access (Collective Equity + Belonging and Connection)
  • The Intersections of CERA, Environmental Studies, and Environmental Stewardship (Catalyst for Educational Excellence)

As ever, we seek your input, expertise, and energies to continue to move the knowledge gleaned from research and study into action that improves experiences and strengthens our community. From paradigm shifts to specific actions, this Convocation will delve into how our individual and institutional relationship to a strategic horizon can shape our experiences and ambitions at and for ΢ƽ.

If you are unable to attend in person, materials will be available on the , where you can also find materials from the 2025 ΢ƽ Colloquium.

Warmly,

Anne F. Harris

President
